You may have done this. Create your DVD, but don't burn it. The status 
pane will display encoding status. Let it encode completely. Then burn a 
disc. Also, be sure to use quality Apple, TDK or Sony media. We've found 
these to be the best for compatibility.

Also, be sure your Mac doesn't go to SLEEP during any of this.

These are the rules I live by. We used to create DVDs for a Vegas 
wedding chapel for nearly a year. We did well over 200 DVDs. Nary a 
complaint. Using iDVD 2 (3 later in the process).
