You need to trick the Mac. After the project has finished encoding and asks for a disk you put in a DVD-R disk then after it is verified eject it and replace it with a -RW disk. There is no need to worry you have a fairly large amount of time during which to do the switch. I used to do this regularly but with media cost well below $1 I no-longer do it very often. Less set-top players are compatible with -RW format than -R so if you are sending it as a preview for others to see you might get a call that they are unable to view your disk.
