Any Pioneer DVDr is a Superdrive. That simply means that the Apple OS will recognize it
as a factory installed disc capable of booting the system. It doesn't matter if the
drive label shows DVR-103 or DVR-A03. They work the same.

The drives do get faster in the more recent incarnations. Here's a quick rundown of
media types and speed for all of the Mac usable Pioneer equipment. By the way, it
doesn't matter if it's installed internally or in a Firewire external case. USB 2.0
gives trouble on the Mac platform, though.

DVR-A03
Read Speed 4x (DVD) • 24x (CD)
ReWrite Speed 1x (DVD)
Write Speed 2x (DVD) • 8x (CD)

DVR-A04
Read Speed 6x (DVD) • 24x (CD)
ReWrite Speed 1x (DVD)
Write Speed 2x (DVD) • 8x (CD)

DVRA05
Read Speed 12x (DVD) • 32x (CD)
ReWrite Speed 2x (DVD)
Write Speed 4x (DVD) • 16x (CD)

DVR-A06
Read Speed 12x (DVD) • 32x (CD)
ReWrite Speed 2.4x (DVD+RW) • 2x (DVD-RW) • 4x (DVD+RW)
Write Speed 4x (DVD) • 16x (CD)

DVRA07
Read Speed 12x (DVD) • 32x (CD)
ReWrite Speed 24x (CD-RW) • 4x (DVD-RW) • 2.4x (DVD+RW) • 2x (DVD-RW)
Write Speed 8x (DVD-R) • 8x (DVD+R) • 16x (CD)
