IIRC, Contour ShuttlePro operates by "typing" keyboard commands to 
the application when you operate its controls, just like you could 
with a keyboard. It comes with a number of presets that work with the 
most common applications, but you can program its controls for other 
applications if you want. You could use the ShuttlePro to run your 
word processor by setting up it command-key settings appropriately.
