Out of the Box the iMac G5 does only video mirror.

BUT
It is because Apple disables this on consumer Macs

It enables using extended desktop on modern consumer Macs

I have personal experience with this and most new consumer Macs can 
extend their desktops
after applying this OF patch. The iMac G5 is not listed as being tested 
so perhaps someone on the list
with a G5 iMac could try it out and let us know if it works on a iMac 
G5?
