[MacDV] Destructive Editing

For the most part, final cut pro is non destructive editing.  However,
sometimes I would like to be able to permanently delete portions of a clip
(actually making the file size smaller also).

 Question: I don't know how to do it in final cut pro... Is there a way? If
not ... Is there a way to perform this action in some other program?
