[MacDV] ffmpegX (converting avi files)

i've used ffmpegX to convert a few avi files already and have had
pretty good success encoding them in .MOV (mpeg 4) format. i see that
H.264 is an option. at first i ignored it, but while cruising through
apple's website, in the Tiger tour i saw that H.264 is supposed to
have higher quality and a smaller files.

has any one had any experience w/ H.264?
