[MacDV] iMovie imports 4294928384 bytes, then stops

I have a Canopus ADVC110 (and previously a Pinnacle, which did the same 
thing) connecting my DirecTivo to my Powerbook g4 (1.5GHz/1Gb 
ram/10.3.8).

The input works great, for about 19:54:04 (just under 20 minutes).

At which point iMovie (5.0.1 v99) goes back to a blue screen, telling 
me "Camera Connected".

The file size is 4294928384 bytes.  I tried it again, and it stopped at 
4294928384 bytes again.

I suspect there is some sort of buffer that is filling up that only 
allows 4294928384 bytes, but I can't figure out how to work around it.  
(Note: video is saved to an external Firewire drive with over 15Gb 
free)

How can I import 2 hours worth of video?  Do I have to re-start every 
20 minutes and splice it together?

Any help appreciated.
