[MacDV] *.mpg won't play now

Brian, etal,

I am running 10.3.9 and QuickTime™ Version 7.0.0, Player Version 7.0 
(v7.0). I then get the following alert message when I try to run a *.mpg.

QuickTime cannot open the file: "BadDay.mpg" it is not a file that 
QuickTime understands (-2048)

Suggestions?
