I haven't used it with a cable TV feed, but there must be some
way of converting from RF to a type of input that the Canopus
can take. What I have used it for is capturing shows directly
from a satellite TV receiver, and it's been great for that.

I've also recently been using it the other direction to send
video from my Mac to my new HDD/DVD recorder.
