Hey Derek,

Not sure how the budget translates to Aussie Dollars (not just exchange
rate but costs of equipment in the US compared to here) but the Panasonic
GS400 (3CCD) is a very nice camera. It does very well under low light
conditions compared with its competitors, especially the Sony cameras
(with an inter-company purchase I could have saved over a thousand bucks
buying Sony but I wasn't happy with low-light capturing). I was also
pleased with the fact that it does true 16:9 - has the extra pixels on the
CCD. It has a cinema mode but no doubt it is just stretching the 16:9
mode.

Not too bad still shots too - if you're not too fussy. Eventually I'd like
to get a "real" digital still camera though.

When I was assessing cameras for purchasing I found the comments at the
bottom of some of the camcorder review sites extremely helpful as people
were comparing real-world results from their purchases.

Anyway, best of luck!

Cheers,

Coj

I need to buy a PAL mini-DV camera. The budget is $2000. I've looked at
a
few review sites, which seem somewhat outdated. I would appreciate
suggestions for cameras, vendors and review sites for camcorders in this
price range.

Thanks,
Derek
