I agree w/eveything Mike said, esp. about copying large files, which I do alot, but would add that I like to write video DVDs from my external HD, and look for the fastest transfer rate I can find. At one point I was copying the project to my desktop to eliminate any buffer problems.  I also have not done any HD work, but just got my first HD project to work on, so we'll see. Finally, I havew taken to defragging my external HDs from time to time, even tho' I have been told this probably isn't needed.
