OK - thanks for that. With your Firewire cable connected between the Mac and the camera (and the recorded tape loaded but the camera switched off), launch iMovie HD and create a new project. When the project opens, the iMovie viewer window will be black and the sliding button at the bottom left will be at the pair of scissors (edit mode). Switch the camera to the VTR mode (tape play back), then in iMovie, click the camera item on the other side of the sliding button from the scissors. The viewer window should change to blue and the message "Camera connected" should appear. (You may have to select your camera from a pop up menu when you click the camera icon). You should be able to play and rewind the tape in the camera from the iMovie controls. If you can't, your camera is not being recognised properly. If all is well so far, using the iMovie transport controls, rewind the tape to the beginning (or the point where you want to start) press the play button then the "Import" button above it. You should see the footage appear in the viewer window and see a clip appear in in the left hand side. Try all this and let us know how you get on. Somebody.
