All dv video uses 3.6mb/second or about 12-13gb per hour of video. You'll need 15gb for the FCE install. You're USB external hard drive is not approved for use with FCE, so you might want to include a Firewire external. I would really recommend getting Tom Wolsky's Final Cut Express book or his training DVD.
