Maybe the comedy of reinstalling iMovie would be less painful and  
time consuming than learning FCE?
:)  Just a guess.

On the Mac OS install disks that came with the Mac, there is an  
option to reinstall the "additional software".
An option to install the application of your choice is, I think an  
option.
