The MBP appears to have an audio -in jack. It's on the left side. You should be able to use an RCA-to-miniplug cable or adapter to plug in. I would generally try the line out on the boombox but if headphone jack is all you've got, set it pretty low on the volume. Audacity is good and it's easy, but you could probably use GarageBAnd. Whether you use Garageband, Audacity, pro Tools, Logic, Final Cut , or iMovie, you're probably going to want to export a version for itunes and probably a second one for your DVD since formats and sample rates might not match.
