From practical experience that is not wholly the case
I have a 667MHz Ti and a 1.5GHz Al and both of them will happily
capture a full hour of single stream DV via firewire
The Ti with a 60GB 4200-rpm drive and the Al with an 80GB 5400-rpm drive
The Al shares the 167Mhz System Bus with the Mac mini
Good point. I owned an Aurora Fuse for a short while and on 5400RPM drives you could capture 640x480 @ 30FPS M-JPEG up to 5-6MB/SEC easily. Sure, 7200RPM drives were/are recommended but it can be acheived. Just my two cents...
