[MPA] electronic keyboard

I am new to this list, and I know that it is for people knowledgeable 
in electronic music.  I know NOTHING.  So I'm looking for some advice.

I am thinking about getting an electronic keyboard for my wife.  My 
wife plays piano but has never used an electronic keyboard.

Any suggestions.

What should I look for?

What questions should I ask?

Any brands that are better?

Any brands or models I should stay away from?

What should I expect to pay?
