VV and usb mic woes

I'm trying to  set up ViaVoice 3 on my Powerbook (Pismo/400, 320MB, 10.2.3 )
I can't get it to recognize the Andrea 7100 microphone.  I've tested 
the mic with other audio apps and the problem doesn't seem to be 
there.
I've checked the  system preferences and AK5370 is selected as input.
I've checked and double checked obvious stuff like the cables... I'd 
be grateful for any suggestions.
