Hope I can chip in with a useful comment

Its good to do the 'training' programmes to allow the programme to recognise
the voice that its going to be recognising (in this case, your daughter)

have you done these yet?

and setting up the microphone and adjusting it to get the best reception

all good things to do.

Its got full and clear explantions in the manual

(i'm in OS9 at the moment, so my terminology is from memory . . .)
