[MV] VXI USB adapter sound out

[Not really voice recognition, but related...]

I have just realised that the VXI USB adapter that comes with the 
TalkPro Xpress does sound out as well as in. It can be selected in 
the Sound system pref as VXI USB 7.02. However, when I plug the 
earpiece cable from the microphone in, I don't get any sound. The 
volume is high, but not a squeak.

Anyone have any ideas? Or is this non-Mac functionality?
