MacOS 9 isn't getting any fatter, it isn't getting any slower, in fact it isn't being updated at all. OS 9 runs amazingly fast on a 1GHZ G4 and those machines are available now, so buy 3 if you're afraid or you think you'll actually be running OS 9 in 2 years from now (hint: you won't) The complete removal of a bootable OS 9 system is the final step towards moving the MacOS towards a completely portable system. This is the big step that needs to be taken if Apple is going to port MacOS X to Intel, and believe me they will. Unix is inherently portable as are any apps written to the Cocoa API. It becomes jokingly easy to make an Intel version of OS X if Apple so chooses. There's only one thing stopping them... OS 9. Classic is fully emulated, so there's no issue there, but allowing a native OS 9 system requires a PowerPC chip and special Apple hardware. Mac OS X is the future of Apple and the Mac OS. It's really that simple. ------------------------------- Ric Perrott Writer, Poet, Pot-Stirrer Visit http://www.ricperrott.com
