Actually, the AirPort base station is a Lucent WaveLAN card, and no external antenna...just the one built into the PCMCIA card. The extra hardware is the small computer that has the firmware necessary for providing TCP/IP, SNMP, and AppleTalk support, and code necessary to interface with the Ethernet, PCMCIA, and RJ11 ports.
