So, unless all of your plugs [that jack into the wall sockets] are 'one-way', meaning one jack is much larger than the other, of each pair, you can unplug one and plug it in the other way. This can reverse ground on the main device and anything connected to it. A ground 'loop' causes hum in audio gear [usually in the area of 60 cycles], and static in other home gear.
