  Interesting history! What was the deal with the "polyphonic sound 
chip" in the Apple

In the 1970s the scientists at the  Australian Antarctic base included 
a request for a "polyphonic wave generator" in one of their budget 
submissions. Turned out they just wanted a piano for sing-songs during 
the long periods they were unable to work on the ice :)
