[Ti] weird word pronunciation

the -re and -our endings were acquired in the English language after 
the Norman Conquest of 1066.

(or rather, the french words were acquired, along with other 
mind-numbing linguistic things i won't bore you folks with.)

i can only ~guess~ that the Americans changed the spelling after the 
Am. Rev. War 1776, but i don't know that for a fact.
