[Ti] dead cdrom on TI500 - what are my options

Have you considered MacresQ's superdrive upgrade? You can also do a 
combo drive upgrade. They have a service where they dispatch a box and 
do the work overnight and return it to you at a very reasonable price, 
I think.

I have not tried it myself yet, but I also have a Ti500 and it would be 
really sweet to have a SuperDrive!
