I'll throw in the little that I know here as well -- yes, the SuperDrive burns to DVD-R, not DVD+R or DVD+RW, however there are some external multi drives, like the ones made by Sony, that work just fine with Mac. I believe you need Toast Titanium to burn to DVD+R. If I'm not mistaken, I'd heard that one of the features of Panther was support for burning of DVD+R media. Don't quote me on that, though. Also, you can use DVD-RW just fine with the Mac. You can burn from the finder and use Disk Utility to erase the disk. I believe this process is facilitated by using Toast Titanium. Also, although iDVD doesn't officially "support" the use of DVD-RW, it is possible to use it. You put a DVD-R in the drive and iDVD will recognize it. Then when you tell it to burn the DVD and it starts to prepare the drive image, simply swap out the DVD-R for a DVD-RW. I haven't tried this myself, but I've seen it documented in numerous places and it appears to work without a hitch. Good luck with the burning! We made some Christmas DVDs to send out to the family this year, so I'm anxiously awaiting feedback from them. Who knows, it may be the start of a new tradition instead of sending cards. -- P. H.
