The 1st generation Powerbooks have ATI Rage Mobility 128 (2xAGP) cards with
8 MB VRAM. They come with VGA ports (Max 24 bit 1280x960 non-mirror). So,
probably a 15" LCD monitor would be best. A 17" monitor would be wide
enough, but it would produce black bands top and bottom to fit the 960 dpi
maximum vertical resolution. Just make sure it is a VGA monitor, not a DVI
or ADC one.

The good news is that you can get 15" LCD monitors extremely cheaply. My
guess is that soon they will no longer be produced.
