For many years I used the shareware Remember? package under classic 
Mac OS which had this capability and I miss it too. Last time I 
checked there was an early beta version of Remember? for OS X but the 
popup reminders weren't working so I didn't bother trying it out. It 
might be time to check it out again and see how it's going. (The 
author was Dave Warker and the first version came out way back in 
1988.)
