A Mac OS that would allow you to take Windows files and applications and work with them with only a double click just makes sense. As thing stand now, switchers face a conversion something like a religious conversion that asks to leave nearly all their comfortable bad habits behind cold turkey. Certainly anyone using such a machine would choose Mac apps whenever possible. The REAL problem with market share, specifically the number of retail purchases of computers, is that this point of sale is when the vast majority of third-party software is sold. The Mac will live or die according to the availability of third-party applications for it. A relatively small number of Mac sales means a relatively small number of software sales, as well. It is hard to argue with the notion that developing for the huge base of Wintel machines has the potential for greater profit. Apple needs to get the tools out to convert the zillions of UNIX apps to run on OS X easily. That would more than level the playing field. -Joel
