CD/DVD Packet Writing

My biggest disappointment with my Titanium G4 w/SuperDrive has been the
lack of packet writing, also known as Direct CD on Windows. Packet
writing, which is a routine use on Windows, allows you to mount a
CD-R/CD-RW/DVD-r/DVD-RW and write to it on the fly. This lets the media
function as a "hard drive" that can be kept mounted and written to at
will. I don't know why I haven't seen more complaints about how OS X
requires you spend the time to create a disk image and then spend more
time burning the disk. While the new multisession capability is a
start, it's still awkward. Did I read somewhere that Adaptec was
working on giving us a packet writing package? This is one area in
which Windows has the Mac beat, hands down. In case you're wondering, I
do LOVE my Powerbook, even though it's not perfect. I took delivery on
the Friday before the Tuesday that the new Powerbooks were announced.
Is this a record? After being depressed for a day, I snapped out of my
self pity and decided that I needed the Powerbook now, not two months
later, and that the 15.2" form factor was ideal (over the "cafeteria
tray" size of the 17"). Still, having a backlit keyboard would be cool.
