CD/DVD Packet Writing

My biggest disappointment with my Titanium G4 w/SuperDrive has been the 
lack of packet writing, also known as Direct CD on Windows. Packet 
writing, which is a routine use on Windows, allows you to mount a 
CD-R/CD-RW/DVD-r/DVD-RW and write to it on the fly. This lets the media 
function as a "hard drive" that can be kept mounted and written to at 
will. I don't know why I haven't seen more complaints about how OS X 
requires you spend the time to create a disk image and then spend more 
time burning the disk. While the new multisession capability is a 
start, it's still awkward. Did I read somewhere that Adaptec was 
working on giving us a packet writing package?  This is one area in 
which Windows has the Mac beat, hands down. In case you're wondering, I 
do LOVE my Powerbook, even though it's not perfect. I took delivery on 
the Friday before the Tuesday that the new Powerbooks were announced. 
Is this a record? After being depressed for a day, I snapped out of my 
self pity and decided that I needed the Powerbook now, not two months 
later, and that the 15.2" form factor was ideal (over the "cafeteria 
tray" size of the 17"). Still, having a backlit keyboard would be cool.
