Weird battery indicator

Dear listers,

I was very pleased to learn that somehow the life of my 12'' PowerBook's
battery suddenly increased to more than six hours for no apparent reason.
Of course my happiness did not last too long and now I find my 'Book often
enough closing down in the middle of my work.
I tried resetting the PowerManager, the PRAM (using OpenFirmware) etc. - to
no avail.
Do you have any idea (maybe just on how to reset the battery or the
PowerBook properly)?
