[Ti] Reasons to NOT buy 15" 867 MHz or 1Ghz Titanium?

Hi All,

I've added the 1 GHz to the subject. Our university computer store has
a fantastic deal on both these models. I'm looking at passing on my 550
to my father and getting a new Ti for myself. I know that better stuff
is "in the pipes" (always is, isn't it?) but I'm budget constrained.

Other than the "touchiness" that Sam points out on the SuperDrive are
there any substantial reasons to avoid either of these models right
now? The deal at the comp store includes AppleCare (it really is a
super deal! 1738 for the 867 or 2038 for the 1Gig -- including
AppleCare).

My 550 is tending to run a little hot these days but it has been a
super workhorse for me since I got it in 2001 (unfortunately just
shortly before the combo drive was added). I'm fighting to keep just
under 2 gig free all the time to keep the system happiest and I'd
rather get a newer Ti than fiddle with a hard drive upgrade. For my
dad's purposes a 20 gig drive will be more than adequate so it's a
reasonable thing to pass on to him as is (although, I probably should
bite the bullet and fix the latch on it for him).

TIA for any advice.

Cheers,
Jenn

It's pretty slow: an hour for a full DVD... AND the computer is SUPER
sensitive while burning a DVD-- I've had discs fail when I put my hands
down
too fast.
