Yes, it is the original battery. However, before this incident, I 
didn't have any problems with the battery holding a charge.

Just a few drops. It was nowhere near drenched. But since there was a 
significant time before it getting a bit wet and the time the battery 
burned out I cannot make a definite conclusion that it was the cause 
of my problem.
