Hi all, I just bought a dynalink pc-card to extend my Ti667 (infrared) with usb 2.0 capability and I'd like to share my experiences. While testing the card in the shop with an usb-mouse, it seemed to work, but testing it with a usb 2.0 memory key, I received my first ever kernel panic! Which, in a wintel shop, is kinda embarrassing... After formating the pen-drive (or whatever name you'd like), it seems to work, but only in usb 1.1 mode! What a shame. The person helping me was really helpful by googling up a site that has a .pkg installer which will enable the full usb 2.0 transport rate. ( http://www.orangemicro.com/updateusb2mac.html ) I installed this and after the obligatory restart it seemed to work. Only if I forget to power down the pc-card before I remove it, the kernel-task is consuming all cpu, making normal work impossible and the cpu impossibly hot. So after some experimenting I came up with the following workflow: 1) unmount the pen-drive that's mounted via the pc-card. 2) remove the pen-drive from the pc-card. 3) power-off the pc-card. 4) remove the pc-card from my tiBook. So now I ended up with my first non apple installed kernel extension. Are there ways of un-installing it when the next (boxed?) upgrade comes along? Are there any other ways of enabling usb 2.0 capabilities on 10.2.6? Next plan is to buy an usb 2.0 drive enclosure that will hold one of my intel desktop harddrives, so as to have some space for video editing. Sadly firewire enclosures are extinct here in my neighborhood. :-( Arjan -- Multiple exclamation marks are a sure sign of a sick mind -- (Terry Pratchett)
