Uh, not when you're downloading from an ftp site which requires passwords. I have sites where customers pick up files they need (too large to conveniently send as email attachments). Same for people who want me to download files that are specifically for me (and no one else). Many folks need username- password ftp. I certainly DO NOT want anyone who chances across my ftp sites to be able to get files not intended for them. Maybe anonymous ftp is sufficient for basic needs if someone is casually downloading stuff from web sites, but there are other needs. For the MSWin world, AbsoluteFTP from VanDyke is great. It's available for one month for free. The web site is http://www.vandyke.com/.
