They exchange parts that are often easily fixed or have such a high cost to produce that a greater difficulty in fixing them is made up by having to purchase fewer parts. Fixed parts can then be used to refurbish or repair computers, though they also use new parts to do this as well. An exchanged 65W Power Adapter , however, is almost as expensive as the retail version, and you don't even get the adapter-to-wall portion, just the white brick. Any money that Apple might save in repairing the cord is lost in their labor to do so, plus a relatively high shipping cost.
