Since mine wasn't ordered until several weeks after the intro, I figured i was several weeks behind the early adopters. So imagine my surprise when mine showed up today! Observations - yes, the box does have a relatively strong smell to it when unpacking. One notable packing difference - the printed "suitcase" box comes in the standard plain shipping wrapper, but it's also wrapped inside a plastic bag. That may help to trap the smell of the box ink. The unit comes with the usual cables: S-video to composite adapter, DVI to VGA extractor, modem cable - but no FireWire 800 to FireWire 400 adapter. It comes with a single blank 2x DVD-R disk, power supply, and 3-prong power supply cord. Steve W. had mentioned that the unit does not come with a hardware test disk, only a single Restore DVD. Interestingly, when I booted the unit with the OPTION key held down, two disk images came up - the restore DVD and a Hardware Test image. So it appears that the DVD is dual session. I then examined the DVD more closely, and it indeed has printed on it - "to run Apple Hardware Test, reboot and hold down the OPTION key". The screen is HUGE, compared to my 15" DVI PowerBook. The RAM upgrade was easy. I'd received a Kingston 512MB upgrade, and that DIMM actually had a metal shield around it. The pre-installed RAM did not. I won't be able to log much time on it until this weekend, but I'll pass along any other interesting observations.
