Yes, Chris, that's exactly what I've found.  I could not add the additions
"manually".  But eventually, the additions dialogue box came up, noting that
the additions were already present.  I ran them again anyway and now all is
well.  Strange that it took 2 days of use before it appeared!  It seems that
VPC knows which additions need to be installed to work with a particular
version of Windows.  But, you would think that as soon as the OS was
upgraded, the additions updater dialogue would appear.

Thanks all for the input on this. I'm just glad it's working now as it's
supposed to.
