(Unless I'm mistaken)... You can use it for a number of things-- I have a compact-flash adapter for mine, so I don't have to carry around a cable for my camera, I just pull out the CF card and stick it in my tibook. I know people also use them to get better wireless reception (put an 802.11b card in there), and I'm sure there are hundreds of other uses, but I think using it to read digital camera media is probably the most common.
