My .02, 

If you want to archive the DV from the camera for later use I suggest
dumping the data to he HD and burning a Data DVD, but remember this is
uncompressed video (well DV compressed, but it's one of the least compressed
of the major formats) and as such will take up an healthy amount of HD and
DVD space.

This video can then be retrieved later for editing, just if it had just been
shot.

Short answer, can you dump straight through the computer to it's DVD-burner?
Not that I know of.

If the Powerbook is also to be used for editing then I would recommend that.

There are also HD storage solutions for strictly storing DV info. And HDs
can store a lot more data than DVDs.

I've seen 200Gig drives for $150 now.
