Taking a Computer to Peru

I had planned to take my AlBook 12 to Peru this summer in order to hold
pictures I would download from a digicam and to communicate with work in
case I found some 'hot spots" down there.

My wife was reading that it's possible they may want to charge me 50%
duty on the computer when we arrive. Has anyone heard of that? I have e-
mailed the Peruvian embassy, but no response so far.
