this sounds like it may be the power management unit; Apples TIL has 
info on how to reset the unit for your particular model. You may also 
search the archives of this list as it has been discussed in length. 
I would try the reset before ordering parts, and unless you are a 
skilled technician, replacing the PMU is non-trivial.
