IrDA port

Folks,

  I am having a problem with the IrDa port on my 500 MHZ TiBook.  It will
not turn off.  I go up to the menu item and select "Turn IrDA Off" and it
remains on.

  I have gone into the network preferences and went through each location
and removed the IrDA port and it still remains on.

Any ideas/help would be appreciated.
