Mark - your post was very encouraging, and
motivated me to look for such an article.
I found this:
http://www.wwc.edu/~frohro/Cardbus/Cardbus.html
It contained a link to the earlier USB Card Support, version 1.3.5.
The latest version (1.4.1) would not run on the
Powerbook 3400c, but this earlier version did.
I installed it, restarted, and put the MacAlly PC
card in the lower of the two PC-card slots; a
USB/card icon appeared immediately on the
desktop. I connected my Epson C82 and printed
out a document immediaely. Everything is fine
now.
The 3400c (which in 1997 cost me FAR more than
any Powerbook now available) is up and running
with USB now.
Many thanks indeed for your help.
regards, Trevor
