I worked on the 802.16 standard for a couple years. The marketing people don't realize the "decibels" required to get a wide-area, wideband signal through building walls at ground level. As WiMAX is written, this can only be solved by some combination of: 1. High-power base stations on tall towers. 2. Many base stations. 3. Connecting to an outdoor antenna. 4. Using a lot of power, not good in a battery-powered laptop. 5. Accepting unreliable service within buildings. My conclusion: You'll be using 802.11 on powerbooks for quite some time.
