It compares very favorably due to it's higher output capability, dual 
output jacks, extremely low noise floor and 24/96 capability. I'm 
running a set of Etymotic Research E4RS earplugs and they sound 
incredible. As to the weird shutdown issue...they fixed that with the 
second driver release, IIRC. If you want to do any kind of laptop 
recording, you might want to investigate their newer I/O version.
