[Ti] [semi - OT] Tiger - Core Image Graphics

Yes the 9200 is similar to the 90000, but Apple doesn't list the iBook
as having the supported hardware. From the Core Image part of the
Tiger preview:
"These cards are available in today’s PowerBooks, Power Mac G5s and
both the 17-inch and 20-inch iMac"

The iBook and eMac aren't listed as having the supported graphics
hardware. So it looks as if us last gen Ti users, iBook users, and
eMac users are in the same hole. In a manner of speaking. However I
wouldn't be surprised if Apple scaled back Core Image somehow. I mean
it just seems like they're cutting out a lot of machines including all
of their current model consumer minded machines.

From the readme on the developer preview, it lists a requirement of
having a built-in firewire port. This definitely rules out any
pre-Pismo PowerBook G3s from running the OS (officially) - it may still
be possible, as with Panther on the Wallstreet models (see
http://waffle.wootest.net/past/04/04/18/

As I'm about to toss some cash into a new LCD panel for my 1GHz tibook,
I'm also worried about Core Image and its support for my humble
machine. I wouldn't be too concerned as the current generation of
iBooks use the Radeon 9200 which is similar in feature set to the 9000.

I would, however, be worried that the next requirement would be a G4.
Not a problem for us tibook users, but it will pose an issue for iBook
users.

Needless to say, judging by the description, it'll work - just slowly -
and it may not look as visually stunning if your graphics hardware
doesn't support it. Remember that the Pismo is still an officially
supported machine (my advice to any Pismo users would be to investigate
the sale of their machines before it's too late!!).
