I can recommend this drive. The Hitachi drive has breathed new life into my PB G4/667/512. Much faster opening apps and the finder seems zippy again. Just a bit more noisy on idle (some low level humming), but much less noise during read/write operations. Nothing negative to report regarding heat or battery life. I got it for $158 delivered from newegg.com HTH, Miguel On Nov 20, 2004, at 8:48 PM, Wilhelm Wanders wrote: > i replacedmy 10gb one (out of tibook mercury) with this one: > http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/IDE/hitachi_travelstar60GB_7200/ > travelstar60GB_7200rpm.html > > did it myself ....matter of 20 minutes (max.) ....MUCH less noise and > it is faster (opening apps etc.) > i cannot comment on the battery usage, since my tibook is used pretty > stationary .... > hope that helps, good luck :) > > > On Nov 20, 2004, at 6:33 PM, Manoel A Felciano wrote: > >> Hi all-- >> >> I have a PB G4 667mhz... the internal IBM 45 gig Travelstar drive has >> been giving me trouble: even after total lowlevel erase and reformat, >> I get S.M.A.R.T. status: failing. >> >> I assuem this means it is time for a new internal drive.
